The Glass Wall ...

The wall separates the baby's bedroom from the livingroom. The first two pics are on the baby room side. The other three are from the livingroom looking at the baby's room. There will be wooden grills or frames put on the doors at the top and bottom to give it a design. Opinions?

Someone on my yahoo group posted this little "photo essay" by the New York Times on a family who adopted a little girl from Ethiopia. Check it out!

No News Doesn't Feel Like Good News

I haven't posted anything about the baby because basically there is nothing to post. The only semblence of news is news for someone else. Another PAP (potential adoptive parent) who is with my agency and who received her referral (call with photos and info on baby one is matched with) on the same day as I did got an email saying that all was finalized and that she can go and get the baby. I was hoping that it meant I would get that same call around when she did, but it didn't happen that way. I have been waiting for more than a week for that email. So - I am feel feeling that no news is not such good news. Good news will be when they call and say - COME!
:(

Memorial Day Weekend

OK. Sorry I have been gone so long, but on the bright side I have some things to post now. My friend A and her daughter D spent the weekend with me. I met them in Manhattan on Friday afternoon and we drove out to my mom's house. The plan was to prepare the baby's room and have some seasonal fun in between. The main project was to sand and paint an old cabinet and turn it into a changing table with storage underneath. Here are some picks - BEFORE and DURING - the after will have to come next weekend.

While we were working on that - my nephew and D were playing nicely.

Sunday we went to church and Monday was the parade in the village. My newphew marched with his baseball team. It was very cute.

Construction

I just checked my blog and my construction started on March 3 and now it is May 13. There is still a lot to do. The contractor has another job and I am clearly not a priority. It is very frustrating. Still have no sink at all in the apartment. Still the fridge isn't here. Still the painting is messed up. Still the wall to create the baby's room isn't here. Electrical switches are hanging out, stove and microwave not hooked up, chipped tiles in the bathroom, blah, blah, blah . . . it is getting stale. Contractor says he will come on Monday night to look over and plan the rest if the work.

When You Take a 2 Hour Nap

Ok - so it is 1:30 am and I am up. I was so tired after work that I fell asleep for a few hours. I got up in time to watch LOST and now I am not tired at all. I think I heard the people downstairs banging on the ceiling. I may be paranoid (check here - if you don't know the history). All Iwas doing was standing on the floor ironing. I think that they are used to the previous tennant who was very old. Maybe he went to bed at 9:00 and didnt get up until the morning. I normally sit on my bed doing work and then start moving around to get ready for the morning (picking out clothes, ironing, walking to the undone kitchen) at about 11:30. Do I jump up and down? Do I blast music or TV? Not at all. I guess they will have to deal. I am just a night person.

Baby Bedding

The bedding for the baby's room in my condo arrived. I am very pleased. The colors are the ones I pictured in my mind. She is going to have a flower fairy bedroom with pastel colors at my mom's house so I wanted the condo room to be vibrant and exciting. What do you think? Check the link.

I don't think that there are any accessories made to go with it so I will probably just go and get fabric (my new fav fabric store in Manhattan called Elegant Fabrics 40th ST. and 7th Ave) in one of the colors and make valances. Since one whole wall of her room is going to be frosted glass I can put some decals on to decorate too .. if anyone knows of anything that would go with these colors feel to let me know.

Putting Stuff Away

Tomorrow the contractor said he would have the place cleaned. I am truly hoping so - even though the last 3 times he said wouldcome he didn't show/changed plans ... I decided to break down and dust off some stuff that needs to go into the kitchen and other areas. I am not sure if they have to do more work around there, but the stuff has been sitting in boxes for 2 months so I wiped it off in my makeshift sink (piece of wood on the counter with a bucket filled with soapy water). I CANT WAIT FOR THIS TO BE DONE!

Flower Fairies

I got the fabric for the flower fairies quilt I am going to have made for the baby's bedroom at my mom's house. There are 8 different fabrics required for the quilt. I am not so sure about the bright pink. It doesn't seem to really go with the other colors, but maybe it will pop and look good when it is all together.

News (Carol, I know you like the updates)

OK, today I got an email from another adoptive parent from my agency who went to visit her daughter before the official travel date. She sent me pictures of my daughter and told me that she is doing well. Her exact words are "healthy, happy and strong. Boy, was I happy to get that email. She looks very cute in the pictures. I can't wait to go and get her! Today I got all the paperwork I need to get together for my visa to Ethiopia. Thursday I have a call with my case worker so I will go over any other things I need to do.
